Portrayed with stye and sophistication by Nichelle Nichols in Star Trek: The Original Series and six feature films, Uhura became one of the franchise’s most beloved characters, and her distinctive earpiece remains an instantly recognizable part of her iconic uniform. The Original Prop Used by communications officers, science specialists, and navigators throughout Starfleet, the earpiece was designed as a compact wireless receiver.
